Bozeman, MT to Almost Bozeman pass – The zero day that wasn’t.
6/21/26 - 10 miles. Less than an hour of seat time.
A 'zero day' is a day when long distance hikers or bike riders intentionally make no progress and rest up/resupply. And that was the intent for the day. Stay up late reading Mistborn. Get up late and write posts. Eventually go into town and do laundry and have a meal that someone else cooked.
And it would have been that but I discovered that 86 out of Boseman was the intended route for the beginning of the next day. So we rolled into Boseman and bought some screws at the local hardware store. You see, the night before...I might have said something infuriating...and in a fit of rage Bunny ripped a drawer face off the drawer under the fridge. Or maybe I just used too short screws to attach the drawer face originally and I have now typed something infuriating.
I need to test the fix for the drawer face you see.
After getting screws, we headed to the local laundromat and discovered that we are not in fact a rare breed. All sorts of van lifers, bull riders (the rodeo was in town...HUGE BUCKELS...oh my god so big...how do they sit?), and locals were doing laundry. Bunny managed the machines while I fixed my inferior cabinetry workmanship.
Chores completed we went to have lunch at the Bachus Pub inside the historical Baxter Hotel. This recommendation came via friends we hike with regularly and they did not steer us wrong. Bunny had a delicious Bison burger and I had 'Hunter fries' which were a take on poutine. Bachus Pug had nitro pour Guiness, and I love me some Guiness. However, I only had one because I decided to ride back to Battle Ridge campground. Thus, the zero day was not in fact a zero day. It was just really short. I rode without a camelback. Just me and the bike and a water bottle and it was heavenly.

While we were gone, everyone else left the campground so when we got back we got the level site with the view we had walked to the night before.
