Double Rainbow! Harbinger of the day.

I put Crank Brothers 'egg beater' pedals on my bicycles. These clipped pedals are traditionally used by mountian bike riders becasue they deal well with sticky/muddy environments. More important for me is that they allow a lot of 'float', meaning that I can roatate my heels laterally and let my knees move more naturally through pedal strokes than I can using Shimano SPD pedals.

The pedals utilize a spring to allow the 'egg beater' to open and close around the clips on the bottom of my shoes. The spring broke and the pedal no longer gripped the clip on my shoes.

This spring is still functional

Luckily, only 70 miles away in Worland, WY is Larsen's bike shop. The conversation went something like this:

Squido: Hey do you sell Crank Brothers pedals?

Larsen's: Nope.

Squido: Shimano SPDs?

Larsen's: Nope.

Squido: Do you have any pedals with float to allow for heal/knee movement?

Larsen's: Do you want Egg Beaters?

Squido: Yes please.

Larsen's: Candy style?

Squido: Nope....no surrounding pedal. Just the egg beater.

Bunny hears this conversation and decides to take a picture (the one above) so it is perfectly clear what I want.

In the morning we head out at 9a. I limp slowly towards Worland. Bunny makes it to Worland and secures the pedals and a couple of tools.

Bunny and Poodle turn around and we meet in Greybull. I managed to get about 30 miles in on the broken pedal.

Double overcast skies made struggling with a busted pedal a little more tolerable.

I stop at Brandi's Candies in Greybull which is a specialty candy store. Mostly hard candies. But I find that they have Bit o' Honeys and buy a couple of bags with my lunch.

I meet Bunny and Poodle at the town park and install the pedals. Perfect! Lunch and a nap and some Bit o' Honeys and I'm back on the road with a mission to make it to Worland before 6p so that I can personally thank the owner.

Once again I'm benefitting from tail winds and turning about 20 mph on flats and mild uphill grades. I pull into Worland around 5:15p and hit Larsen's. Lisa is a gem and we talk bikes and adventures and how kids on e-bikes 'just don't know'. I put a shop sticker on the van.

Bunny got a chance to sample the local museum which she highly recommends. Apparently our ancestors were running around hunting mammoth on what would eventually become the Wyoming high plains.

We roll down the street and check in at the town RV park, which was one of the nicer parks we've used during the trip and happens to be walking distance to the museum. But best of all was having a mare and new colt show up in the pasture right behind our site.

Another pretty big day with a challenge overcome.
