6/27-6/29 - 213 miles 13-14 hours of seat time over '3' days.

Wyoming, you're flat.

I've seen your cows and horses

Faster pace is nice

I don't mean to denigrate Wyoming but the views are pretty similar no matter where you look. There are some hills in the distance from time to time, but mostly you are surrounded by scrub grass fields, the occasional herd of cattle, and that's about it.

Do you know what these fences that can't contain cows are for?

The winds that had been blowing North when I passed through wind river had now turned East and were averaging 15-20 mph. We had intended to stay in a little rest area known as Hell's Half Acre which was about 60 miles from Tough Creek/Boysen State Park, but I made that distance by lunch time. Casper was only 50 more miles and we had decided that I was going to take a real 'zero day' at a hotel in Casper, WY....so why not do that after completing my first 'Century' (a 100 mile day on a bike) in 15 years.

I tried to find the town entrance sign with the Kiwanis and Social lodge signs. This would have to do.

So, I headed out from Hell's Half Acre at about 2:30p. The remaining 45 miles melted away in less than 2.5 hours. Bunny ran ahead to secure a hotel room, that had advertised a pool and a spa....turns out the spa was down for maintenance, and the pool was....well it was small and filled with kids. So I took a pass.

We got take out Mexican and had a couple of giant margaritas while waiting for the food. Back at the hotel, we watched bad TV in a king size bed that the poodle could not dominate.

I used the zero day to catch up on posts and sleep. Both Bunny and I felt itchy to be on the road, but we stuck to the plan and did our best to stay still.

Monday 6/29 I headed out on the bike with the intent to do a relaxed ride to Douglas, WY, but once again, the winds were pushing hard at my back. The GPS route did not include a couple of bike trails in downtown Casper and missed another trail in the Casper suburb of Evansville. Between Glenrock and Douglas I rode along Tank Farm road and I felt as though I was on the set of the Amazon 'Fallout' TV series. It was pretty barren. But the wind was pushing so hard that I could maintain 20 mph with minimal effort.

After meeting up with Bunny and Poodle in Douglas we decided to do some more miles to get all of the planned dirt roads out of the way. Bunny met me at Shawnee, and I'd barely drank more than half of my water bottle. I just stopped to fill it back up with juice and ice and told her to go all the way to Lusk, WY.

I arrived in Lusk at 5:15p with another Century completed thanks to huge tail winds. We took a look at the original plan for milage made back in March and realized that with these two big days I was just a little behind the planned distance for the overall trip. The pressure to get to Iowa by July 17 is off and it's time to dial the pace back a little bit.
